In a world where true discoveries are rare, a curator’s trained eye unveils an extraordinary contemporary art collection concealed for centuries within the walls of a Benedictine monastery.
For an exceptional curator and artist like Federico León de la Vega, surprises are not frequent. Sharp perception and the ability to discover are key pillars when it comes to determining the feasibility of an artistic product. Tendencia spoke with him. The mysteries of an unusual monastic collection painted by Jerome Tupa first revealed themselves to him, and today they open to the eyes of every collector and interior designer seeking to add prestige to their aesthetic work.

Federico, tell us about your experience.
“In my thirty-five years as an artist, author, and art entrepreneur, I have never encountered a more significant investment opportunity than the one I discovered within a Benedictine monastery. During a lunch meeting with a monk, I expected to see traditional religious icons; instead, I was met with a breathtaking collection of contemporary art characterized by vivid colors, fluid brushwork, and bold impasto”.
“This work carries a profound ancestral legacy, rooted in a Benedictine order founded in 529 AD. Struck by the sheer volume and pristine condition of the collection held within the monastery, I organized an inaugural auction in the affluent community of Wayzata, MN, on the shores of Lake Minnetonka”.
“The results were magnificent. Bidding on several pieces more than doubled the opening estimates, and all small-to-medium formats sold out completely. Consequently, I have curated a private reserve featuring the finest large-format works. I am personally representing these spectacular pieces to art investors who understand the immense growth potential of this collection”.

“To facilitate a viewing, we offer two exclusive options: a private visit to St. John’s Abbey in Minnesota—renowned for its natural beauty, Bible museum, and exceptional guest house—or the professional transport of the paintings to the buyer’s preferred location. The cost of either option will be fully credited toward any acquisition exceeding $80,000 USD”.

“I am available at your convenience for a personal presentation of Jerome Tupa, OSB’s work and to present you with a complimentary copy of the book The Road to Rome (published by Target). I have attached several images for your review.”
